WID President's Letters - By Yolanda F. Johnson

July 2019 - Empowerment. Equity. Leadership: Celebrating 40 Years of WID

Welcome to Women in Development (WiD), New York’s 40th Anniversary Year!

“The making of a woman who has continued to grow is a beautiful thing to behold”
– Naomi Wolf

It is a privilege and an honor to write this, my first President’s Letter, as I look ahead to what promises to be a very special year for WiD. Four decades ago, seeing inequity with men in the field, a group of women set forth to establish what would become one of the most powerful professional organizations for female fundraisers in the country. We stand on the shoulders of this greatness now, as we look ahead to what WiD can - and will – accomplish in its next 40 years.

As you may have heard me say many times in the past, WiD is very special to me. It has been one of the most important elements of a successful fundraising career for me, and for hundreds of other women. Just as WiD has evolved, so have her members, and I encourage our members to continue to celebrate how wonderful they are, and to continue to grow both personally and professionally. To truly fulfill its mission to empower women in the fundraising profession, WiD has made a point this year to provide a variety of new offerings. From new membership benefits and programs to a new brand, this year is one of growth for WiD, and we hope for you as well. Woven throughout everything we do this year will be a theme, focused upon empowerment, equity, and leadership, as WiD leads the way for women in the development field.

I encourage all WiD members to join us for the Annual Member Meeting in September, where you’ll learn about all of the amazing new membership benefits and programs, as well as witness the unveiling of the new WiD brand and website. It will be an exciting evening, so please save the date for the evening of September 19th. More details and registration will be available soon.

Join us this year, as we remember WiD’s past, and celebrate her future. Empowerment. Equity. Leadership: Celebrating 40 Years of WiD.
