Interview Highlights

On DEI in higher education

  • DEI is a broad topic and requires education. Veterans and accessibility fall under DEI.

  • Programs are needed to support students of color but research and data are also needed to prove that the programs are effective.

  • Institutions also need faculty of color.

    • Amanda herself did not have a teacher of color until her 30s.

On giving time as a form of philanthropy

  • It takes time to plan and produce fundraising events. Dedicating time is how Amanda built relationships and her network.
