August 2020 - Celebrating Black Philanthropy Month as WID Looks Ahead to What’s Next

Summer is in its twilight now, as we all strive to enjoy some time outside and still find moments of peace and “vacation,” even if not far from home. At the very least, many of us will soon “unplug” from our new virtual normal for just a bit, to refresh ourselves, and then look ahead to what promises to be a very eventful fall season. Wherever you may be at this moment, I want to tell you that WID is hard at work, ensuring that we will bring our community many virtual possibilities in the coming months.

But before then, I look forward to celebrating our Annual Member Meeting with you later this week on Thursday, August 27th. It will be an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and establish new relationships with fellow members. I can’t wait to see you there!

As the fall programming season is upon us, I’m very excited about I to I. This structured networking experience has, for years, been a pillar of WID’s amazing programming; always bringing you topics that are relevant and helpful. A very special thanks to CCS for its generous support of I to I 2020. Before you register for I to I, I hope you’ll take a moment to consider signing up for our new Annual Bundle option. It was designed to ensure that our members have the most cost-effective opportunity to participate in WID’s programs this year. And, depending on what transpires regarding safety guidelines in 2021, if we do meet in-person, it will include those events as well – all for the incredible price of $200. The Bundle is only available until September 30th, so I hope you’ll consider participating soon.

As we reflect upon the month of August, for me it brings to mind many things, including Black Philanthropy Month. But what does “Black philanthropy” mean? Is it Black donors giving to Black causes or is it Black philanthropists giving to the greater society, or both? When I recently asked this of our featured Applause recipient Tracey Webb, Architect of Black philanthropy Month itself, she responded that, “It’s both.” The beauty of Black Philanthropy is that it empowers the Black community to understand and embrace its legacy of generosity and help move the world – and the community – forward. I hope that each of you will find a way to learn more about Black Philanthropy Month before August ends.

Indeed, there are a great deal of wonderful things in store for WID as we look forward to continuing to champion our entire community in its professional journey. Please stay in touch and let us know how we can support you!
