February 2021 - Black History Month
I hope you are healthy, safe and warm these days, as we all continue to navigate the “Now Normal.” I also want to wish you each a very happy Black History Month. In the spirit of our Inclusion, Equity and Diversity goals, I hope that you have noticed our efforts to showcase the wonderful things that WID and its members are accomplishing in this space. It is important to remember, but we should also not relegate our celebration of diversity and equity to one particular month. Over the past several years, I have worked alongside my WID colleagues to champion IED goals for our beloved organization, and I want to take this opportunity to thank the WID community for its work to become an organically more inclusive organization, from the inside out.
In case you missed it, please take a look at what WID has done to lead the way with IED for women in the sector. We’re also thrilled to present this month’s Deconstructing Development on creating more inclusive workplaces and boards and hope that will be helpful to the community. You can learn more about this event here.
We’re also quite excited as we look ahead to Women’s History Month and the inaugural WID Virtual Forum on March 16th! Have you registered yet? It promises to live up to its title of a morning of extraordinary workshops and we hope to see you there. The event will culminate with an unparalleled panel discussion on women’s pay equity. You DO NOT want to miss this. You can learn more or register here.
I want to applaud our featured member for February, Jamila Baucom of the Children’s Village. She’s shining a light and representing WID in wonderful ways!
As we continue to make strides toward celebrating equity and inclusion, I’d love to hear from the WID community regarding your thoughts on how WID can continue to embrace IED. Please feel free to send a note to me at widny@widny.org. And, I hope to “see” you on March 16th!
