May 2020 - Stay the Course
Even during these strange times, the world continues to turn and the seasons continue to change. I’m grateful for the beauty of spring, as we look ahead to summer. However, I am acutely aware that while we may be pondering ways to return to normalcy - especially with beautiful weather abounding - the pandemic has certainly not taken a vacation. So, let us be pragmatically optimistic, finding safe and considerate ways through the changing seasons of this new normal.
I have a client with whom I was speaking recently regarding who they’d like to honor at their virtual event later this year. They’d like to recognize all those healthcare workers who have bravely risked their lives to help others. This does not only include medical staff, but the administrative support, janitorial, and cleaning staff and those who prepare food and nourishment for those on the front lines. It reminded me that we all have a part to play to keep things moving forward. It also makes me think of our inaugural “Applause” section you’ll see below, which will feature someone from within the WID community who is doing amazing work. This first installment features Great Performances for the amazing ethical pivot they made to continue their culinary work while using food as a way to care for people in need. We want to shine a spotlight on those who continue to work each day in the fundraising and philanthropic professions, fulfilling their missions and inspiring us all.
WID remains dedicated to serving our community in every possible way, which is why Deconstructing Development will return soon, with a special installment on June10th. We are listening to the questions you are asking and we know that top-of-mind right now is how to approach special events. So, Laurie Krotman, Co-President of Special Events Unlimited will join us. And, I encourage you to be on alert for the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force report, which will be released soon, demonstrating all that WID has done to embrace DEI efforts and make WID a more welcoming place for everyone.
I want to hear from you! Please stay in touch at widny@widny.org and let us know how you are and how WID can be helpful to you. Remember, please stay the course, be vigilant, and even while we pause – don’t quit!
Wishing you every success,
