WID President's Letters - By Yolanda F. Johnson

October 2019 - What is Your Story?

Have you ever stopped to ponder, “What is my story?” This has been on my mind ever since the October Luncheon on storytelling for fundraising success. Some of the key points that came from that incredible panel discussion among Jaime Greenberg, V. Renée Cutting, Kate Sheeran and led by Laura Fredricks, were: Authenticity, mission and facts. While these elements are primarily intended for our organizations, I find that they are also certainly of use to us as individuals, both in our lives and in our work. How can we be our authentic selves, embracing the most unique aspects of our personalities? Add to that, determining what it is that we truly want to accomplish, our “mission” in life. And of course, we must work to gain real-life experiences that become our truth or our “facts,” if you will.

WID is with you in your professional journey, in order to embrace or in some cases, uncover the many layers of your story. We've had a robust 40th Anniversary season so far this program year, and it continues into November, with the partnership event on prospect research on the 4th, followed by an evening of imagining our futures with noted author, Jeri Sedlar at the President's Council event on November 12th. Then, we are excited to launch WID Wellness on November 19th! That is sure to be a wonderful evening, as we relax and take in expert advice on achieving balance in our lives and careers - especially during the year-end crunch. Shortly after that, the holiday season officially begins, and WID wants to equip you to enjoy it to its fullest!

But the story doesn’t end there. There is so much more to come in 2019 and as we look ahead to the second half of our anniversary year in 2020. And, I look forward to hearing your stories and to sharing and creating the WID story together with you!
