October 2021 - Pride and Joy
As we head deeper into the fall season, I must say just how proud I am of the WID community and of WID’s programming so far this program year, and share the joy it brings me to look ahead at what’s to come for the remainder of this year, and for next year.
WID has hosted groundbreaking discussions and incredibly helpful programs, such as the culmination of the Women Who Lead series on our personal leadership journeys and the reintroduction of Moving Up, Moving On in a virtual format. Add to this, a poignant conversation on resilience and understanding what women face in the workplace, through our Deconstructing Development episode featuring Robin Merle. Robin is a long-time WID friend and now adds “Successful Author” to her resume, with her new book, Involuntary Exit, which we discussed with an audience eager to take away useful tips and tools on how to turn career challenges into career successes.
I have two things to ask of each of you as well. First, WID is tentatively planning to resume in-person programming in 2022 with our Annual Member Meeting in January. But first, we need to hear from you to better understand how to develop our planning. With this in mind, if you haven’t already done so, please complete our survey on returning to in-person events. It will help us ensure that we are producing programming that will benefit the WID community.
Then, have you thought about being a Career Advisor? Mentorship and sponsorship are incredibly important in the careers of women in our profession. I know for certain that my career trajectory was directly impacted by my WID mentor years ago. I was delighted to speak with my former mentee recently to see how she’s doing (wonderfully!). While the program has evolved from mentorship to career advisement, it is no less valuable and we heard rave reviews from those who participated in our inaugural Career Advisors cohort. So I hope that you’ll consider participating. It’s rewarding on so many levels. To learn more, visit: www.widny.org/wid-career-advisors/
There are so many wonderful things happening with WID. Remember, I always want to hear from you about how we can continue creating programming and nurturing a community that enhances your lives and careers.
